This message is likely unsolicited email

As Gmail prints it.
01

What does it mean?

This is Gmail's spam judgement on the message itself, not a fault in your records.

02

What exactly does the source say?

550 5.7.1 This message is likely unsolicited email. To reduce the amount of spam sent to Gmail, this message has been blocked. For more information, go to Why has Gmail blocked my messages?

Gmail's page writes domain-name and ip-address where your bounce shows your own domain and the sending address.

03

Why would a small firm see it?

A cold mailing to many addresses, a message that looks like a common scam, or mail from a domain with no SPF, DKIM or DMARC.

04

How do I fix it?

  1. Check the message passes SPF and DKIM for your domain.
  2. Send only to people who asked for it, and include a working unsubscribe link in any mailing.
  3. Check the Sent folder for mail nobody at the firm wrote.
