01

What does SparkPost (Bird) ask me to publish?

Return-path CNAME CNAME Yes Routes bounces back to us and covers SPF; the SPF lookup follows the CNAME, so no SPF record on your domain apex is needed

SparkPost (Bird) makes the values for your account, so we do not print any here.

02

Where in SparkPost (Bird) are my values shown?

Open Email > Domains , then select a domain to view its records.

In Bird, open Email, then Domains, and select your domain to see its records.

Copy each value from there exactly as shown, and add each record at your DNS host.

03

Will p=reject block SparkPost (Bird) email?

The send gate is capabilities.sending , which verifies only when DKIM, the return-path CNAME, and a DMARC policy are all in place ; SPF at the domain apex is not required.

Not once SparkPost (Bird) signs your email with your domain's DKIM key. DMARC passes when a message passes DKIM or SPF for your own domain, and the DKIM records SparkPost (Bird) gives you are on your domain.

Bird needs a DMARC policy on the sending domain before it will send, and a policy of p=none is enough.

SparkPost (Bird) also asks that your domain has a DMARC record. A domain has one DMARC record: if you have one, keep it and do not add another.

Before you raise your policy, read your DMARC reports and check that email from SparkPost (Bird) passes.
