Cyber insurance application · Hardened baseline

What does a cyber insurance form mean by a hardened baseline configuration?

One form asks whether all, or nearly all, of your devices are set up from one secure standard configuration.

01

What exactly does the form ask?

These are the form's own words, with the page they come from.

Do you use a hardened baseline configuration across all (or substantially all) of your devices?

02

What does it mean for a small firm?

A baseline is a fixed set of settings every device starts with: what is switched off, who is an administrator, what updates install themselves.

03

How do I answer it truthfully?

If new laptops are set up by hand, each one differently, the answer is No. If they are set up from one standard and checked against it, the answer is Yes.

04

Can an outside reading check this?

An outside reading cannot see how your devices are set up. Nothing inside your network, your devices or your accounts can be seen from outside, so this cannot be checked that way. Only your own settings and records can show it.
