How do I know if my email has been hacked?
Look for signs inside the account: messages in Sent you did not write, filters or forwarding you did not set, sign-ins from places or devices you do not know, or a password that suddenly stops working. Any one of them means change the password and turn on two-step sign-in now.

What are the signs?
Google lists where to look in a Google Account. Other providers have the same places under other names.
On the "Recent security events" panel, select Review security events.
Gmail: Review these security tips, and remove any labels, filters, or forwarding rules you didn't set up.
What should you do if you find one?
- Change your password to one you have never used before.
- Turn on two-step sign-in.
- Sign out every device you do not recognise.
- Delete filters and forwarding you did not create.
- Check your recovery phone number and address.Put back your own if they changed.
Where is the change made?
Your email account settings: security, signed-in devices, filters, forwarding and recovery details.
What else do people ask about this?
Someone signed in from another country. Was I hacked?
Maybe. A sign-in can show a far-away place when you use a travel network or a privacy tool. If it was not you, change the password now.
Can I get back in if the password was changed?
Use your provider's account recovery page. It asks questions only the owner can answer.
